The Movie Love And Basketball

One of the biggest problems that escalated to the problem that case the break up was Quincy and Monica’s inability to engage in dual perspective. Engaging in dual perceptive understands means both parties understand the other person’s perspective, thoughts and feelings. We do not need to agree with them but we must acknowledge that the perspectives, thoughts and feeling exist.
Quincy wanted Monica there to help him deal with problems with his dad but Monica had a curfew and could not be out late or she would not be able to play. Monica did not understand why Quincy didn’t understand why she couldn’t stay, and Quincy could not understand why Monica did not give up being able to play to be there for him when he needed her the most.
The topic of how being in a relationship can keep you from doing things such as travelling is a very debated one. But there are other types of commitments that can keep you from doing such things. Have you ever played a team sport.
For the majority of my life I played basketball and I can remember a few instances where this came in the way of going on a trip, for example staying in apartments in Venice with a couple of old friends from school or my cousin’s wedding. If you play a team sport with a high level of commitment, then you will understand your relationship with the team can come as close as the one you have to a partner. Has anyone seen The Movie Love And Basketball. ‘ If so, I would have been the chick going to prom with Spalding. (In case you haven’t seen the movie and don’t understand the reference: Spalding is a basketball brand, so my date would have been the ball).
Now that you’re my girl, you gotta ride on my bike. But I wanna ride my own bike. My dad always drives my mom, that means I gotta ride you.
I loved The Movie Love And Basketball, even though I did not find it to be very realistic. I learned a great deal because although it seems that men and women communicate entirely differently like the stereotypes that say that women talk too much and men answer with one word phrases, women and men do not have many differences in communication styles. I noticed that my boyfriend loves to talk logically and rationally through things and sometimes I do too.
Yet, when I do not want to get emotional I will avoid a topic. I learned that this does not work because in the movie the hard situation that Quincy was dealing with caused them to break up because they did not fully deal with the problem. I consider myself a very feminine girl that is domestic because I love to clean and cook. I was raised doing household chores and there is even a joke in my family that says that a woman cannot get married until she learns how to make tortillas. Therefore I completely understand Camille, Monica’s mom. Yet, I am American and I was taught to pursue the American dream, like Monica, and be your own breadwinner without depending on anyone else. I am completely torn between these two cultures because sometimes I feel that I should be domestic meanwhile I want to pursue my own dreams. Obviously the American side won because I am getting my education and will hopefully be able to find a good job and reach my goals in life. The communication in the movie taught me what is ineffective style of communication between male and female relationships because Quincy and Monica broke up. I learned that I could be a better communicator and make more effort. I am goal oriented and nothing will stop me from achieving goals, but if you care about someone you should not let the chance pass you by because life is not as picture perfect like the movie and you may never get the chance to be with that person again. If I had to offer advice to the couple, it would be to be open to understand each other’s situation. Put yourself in the other person’s shoes, because Quincy did not understand Monica and Monica did not make herself understood. Anything can be worked out when both people want to work it out. The problem was pride and unwillingness to understand each other. Monica and Quincy would not have gone all that time without one another if they would have worked it out from that one misunderstanding. Below is a picture of my male-female relationship:).
Touch is certainly one nonverbal category that is very important in the dynamics in the couples relationship. They both use touch to show affection for each other. Another important non-verbal category they use is their eye contact.
They speak to each other with their eyes several times in the Movie. One example is when they are both dancing with other people at the dance, but it becomes obvious that they both wish they were dancing with each other when they connect their eyes. Another example is at the very end when Quincy tells Monica to play double or nothing and they look at each other for a while before they run to each other. A third category that is very important in their relationship is physical appearance. They are clearly very attracted to each other and play games like stripper-basketball. Monica plays on her physical appearance when they are playing for Quincys love to her. When she starts loosing she takes her shirt of in hopes of psyching him out. (At least that is what I think).

In 1981 in L.A., Monica moves in next door to Quincy. They’re 11, and both want to play in the NBA, just like Quincy’s dad. Their Love-hate relationship lasts into high school, with Monica’s edge and Quincy’s top-dog attitude separating them, except when Quincy’s parents argue and he climbs through Monica’s window to sleep on the floor.
Maybe not in one-on-one pick-up sports, and maybe not in young courtship, but in many legal disputes there are affected third, fourth, fifth, etc., parties who matter. Oftentimes, even when all’s fair for two, all’s not fair for segments of the community whose interests are impacted but unrepresented. Law students should be taught to better account for the parties who are not privy to transactions and disputes ‘ and I credit Prof.
Gregory Alexander and his theory of communitarian property and social obligation for making me focus on this recently. His is much more than a utilitarian, market-based, eating-externalities idea. Alexander argues that because individuals are irreducibly dependent on each other, they have ‘an obligation to participate in and support the social networks and structures’ that enable others to develop, to assert needs, and to pursue their interests and make choices.

Actually, the secret is not really in the exercises or the training itself but alternatively, the way you workout. The following year, he would debut as a college coach, serving as an assistant to his college coach, the “General” Bob Knight.
After a year under Knight’s continued tutelage at Indiana, Krzyzewski, with his mentor’s help … Read more.
When you’re following a Game Tracker game on a Saturday night in the year 2009, you know you’re officially pathetic. I mean, come on’the little armless men they have playing the part of real people look nothing like real people, first off, and second off, they don’t have arms. What am I supposed to do with that.
The program has the little guys shooting, but you know it’s impossible. And why do the have everymade basket bounce around the rim five times before it goes in. It’s likethe end ofa damnDisneybasketball movie. Why do we need to add the unnecessary drama on a Jeremy Pargo fast-break layup. What would I do if there were an actual last-second shot on a game I was following on Game Tracker. I feel like I’d be forced to move in slo-mo as the ball bounced around on the screen. Geeeeeet iiiiiiin theeeeeee hooooooooole. An actual conversationfrom earlier tonight to further illustrate the pathetickness of it all:.
More brief observations: 1) I am more eager to see Hellboy II: The Golden Army than I am Iron Man, 2) I will see Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls, but probably only on DVD, 3) Pixar can do no wrong; Wall-E looks to continue the string of hits that captivate children and adults in one fell swoop. Good for Pixar. Oh, and by the way, take a gander at Wall-E.
Is it my imagination or does he look a lot like a junkyard version of Johnny Five of Short Circuit infamy. 4) Christopher Nolan and star Christian Bale brought the Batman franchise back to prominence in 2005 with Batman Begins. Will The Dark Knight’set to release on July 18′continue the magic. I hope so, 5) This summer is fraught with superheroes, science fiction, sequel, stoner fluff, and for some reason, T.V. show rehashes. It looks like I’ll be scrambling more than usual to find what I’m looking for.

That context and an excellent cast gives this more heft than the typical based-on-a-true-story saga of the underdog team that became national champions. The always-excellent Gugino, in a series of wonderful 1970′s outfits, shows us Rush’s sense of purpose, even when she faces challenges like a Mother Superior (Ellen Burstyn) who is horrified to think that her girls might be ‘athletes’ and a husband who cannot understand why she is there. Her devotion to the girls as people as well as players is nicely shown.
And is is good to see the nuns treated respectfully, not made into caricatures or made to seem stuffy, quaint, or cute. They are portrayed as people, too. We are reminded of their sense of purpose when Rush asks the Mother Superior for equipment and uniforms. The Mother Superior says she is welcome to anything she has and then shows the coach her small, spare, room with little more than a cot and a rosary. Read more on Upcoming Basketball Movies
